Kentucky football has been making waves in the transfer portal since it opened at midnight on Friday. The Wildcats have already hosted several top targets, including Texas transfer running back CJ Baxter and Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt, who is currently ranked as the top player in the entire portal. On Saturday afternoon, Kentucky added another piece to its defense by securing the commitment of Arkansas transfer linebacker Tavion Wallace. Wallace is the younger brother of former UK star linebacker Trevin Wallace, who is now playing in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers. Tavion will have three years of eligibility remaining when he joins the team.

During his time at Arkansas, Tavion was a four-star prospect coming out of high school, ranking 185th overall and 16th among linebackers in his class. He had offers from elite programs like Georgia, Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, and Louisville. However, his college career at Arkansas was limited, as he appeared in only nine games during his freshman season, logging just 11 defensive snaps and 55 special teams snaps.

Trevin Wallace was a standout player for Kentucky, recording 166 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 10.0 sacks over two seasons under former head coach Mark Stoops. He earned team captain honors as a sophomore and was invited to the Reese’s Senior Bowl after his final season in Lexington. His success helped shape the defensive identity of the program, and Tavion now has the opportunity to do the same.

“Premium athletic traits show up often when rushing the passer off the edge or as a blitzer at the prep level, but isn’t strictly a pass-rusher at this stage of his development. Shows nuance reading the triangle when fitting runs inside the box and will strike upon impact. Also can flow laterally with the ball or recover quickly to cover grass from sideline to sideline. Might not be the most instinctive coverage defender but shines playing man-to-man, and should advance rapidly in coverage with collegiate coaching. Plays fast but under control and with very little wasted motion against both the run and pass. Projects as a multi-year P4 starter with the ability to contribute immediately on defense and special teams. Should be viewed as one of the top second-level defenders at this stage of the evaluation process for the 2025 cycle, with plenty of long-term NFL Draft upside thanks to his efforts as a traditional inside-the-box ‘backer and added versatility rushing the passer off the edge.”
