Patrick Vieira Questions Mental Strength of Arsenal After Defeat

Former Arsenal midfielder and captain Patrick Vieira has raised concerns about the mental strength of his former team following their recent defeat to Manchester United. This loss has significantly impacted the Premier League title race, widening the gap between Arsenal and their closest rivals.

He emphasized the need for a leader to boost the team’s morale and urged players to play with more energy and risk. “They need a leader to lift the spirit of the team. They need to understand when they are on the pitch they have to play with more energy and more risks. They have the quality. They didn’t play with the freedom to express themselves.”

Struggles Against Top Teams

Arsenal’s performance against the traditional ‘big six’ this season has been concerning. They have managed just two wins out of seven games, earning nine points from 21 possible. Last season, they were unbeaten in 10 games against these teams, indicating a decline in performance this term.

Vieira highlighted specific areas where the team fell short. He pointed to Saka and Trossard as key players who did not meet expectations. “Saka was too quiet,” he said. “I think he is one of the best offensive players, in big games like that you expect him to perform. Trossard is an important player as well. He didn’t perform.”

Saka, in particular, has struggled recently, scoring no goals and providing just one assist in his last five matches. Vieira stressed the importance of top performances from key players during crucial matches. “The strength of the team is to create chances and score goals,” he said. “Especially when they are at home, they are really aggressive with the ball.”
