Highlighting Outstanding Performances in Winter Sports

The Erie Times-News is currently showcasing the remarkable achievements of District 10 athletes during the PIAA’s 2025-26 winter sports season. This feature, which will run through early March, includes results from the weekend after Christmas and will continue until January 3. Here are some of the standout performances across different sports.

Boys Basketball

Several athletes have made significant contributions to their teams’ successes:

• Willie Shunk, North East: His 27-point performance helped the Grapepickers defeat Iroquois 53-46.
• Liam Hanson, Eisenhower: He scored 19 points as the Knights beat Erie First Christian 82-59 in the final of Iroquois’ holiday tournament.
• Jeheil Scarborough, Kennedy Catholic: His 21 points were part of a balanced offense that led the Golden Eagles to a 58-34 victory over Maplewood.
• Nando Mirarchi, Cathedral Prep: The Ramblers, aided by his 28 points, improved to 13-0 with a 91-74 win against Canisius High School. He also recorded a team-record 115 points against Oil City with 31 points.
• Mike Cacchione, Fort LeBoeuf: His 16-point effort helped the Bison beat Clarion-Limestone 67-55.
• A.J. Tarasovitch, McDowell: He contributed 23 points as the Trojans won 79-62 at Butler.
• Ben Fischer, Grove City: His 20 points helped the Eagles defeat General McLane 61-30. Earlier, he scored 28 points against Neshannock and 30 points in a win against Union-New Castle.
• Shaw Hoffman, West Middlesex: His 20-point effort aided the Big Reds in a 68-41 victory over Titusville.
• Avery Collins, Erie First Christian: He scored 39 points in a 78-70 win against Iroquois. He also converted seven 3-pointers in a previous game against Seneca Bobcats.
• Tristan McCracken, Mercer: His 17-point performance helped the Mustangs defeat Greenville 56-43.
• Josh Cornwell, Northwestern: His 24 points helped the Wildcats beat Maplewood 83-46.
• Austin Hanson, Eisenhower: His 23 points helped the Knights beat North East 82-68 in the semifinal round of Iroquois’ holiday tournament.
• Aiden Ollinger, Mercyhurst Prep: His 13 points led the Lakes in a 63-35 win against Corry.

• Walker Carroll, Cochranton: The University of Connecticut baseball recruit scored 22 points for the Cardinals in a 66-54 win against Union City. He later recorded 17 points in a 49-44 victory against Conneaut.
• Michael Thompson, Cathedral Prep: His 28 points helped the Ramblers secure a 101-61 win against the Franklin Knights.
• Kenny Godoy, Girard: His 29 points were crucial in a 49-48 win against Warren.
• Nevin Stinson, Oil City: His 27-point effort led the Oilers to a 63-53 win against Rocky Grove.
• Grady Matkovich, Fort LeBoeuf: He scored 22 points as the Bison beat Union City 69-45.

• Sebastian Wofford, Erie High: His 19 points helped the Royals defeat Apollo High School 49-32 during the Sunshine Classic.
• Trevor Borowicz, Hickory: His 15 points helped the Hornets improve to 7-1 with a 62-37 win against Eden Christian.
• J.T. Delsandro, Harbor Creek: His 30 points and six assists led the Huskies to a 63-48 win in the Beavers’ holiday tournament final.
• Landen Carter, Rocky Grove: He scored 32 points in a 70-65 win against the Franklin Knights.
• Zane Simons, McDowell: His 24 points helped the Trojans complete a 2-0 sweep in West Allegheny’s tournament.

• Ella Pizzo, Fairview: Her 16 points helped the Tigers defeat Cranberry 53-28.

Boys Wrestling

• Dan Duran, Fort LeBoeuf: His first-place performance in the 215-pound weight class helped the Bison win the team standings at the Tool City Tournament.
• Milan Harrison, Saegertown: He won the 127 gold medal at the Tool City Tournament.
• Kaleb Komisarski, Seneca: He won the 133 weight class with a technical fall at the Tool City Tournament.
• Josh Perrino, Greenville: He won the 139 division at the Tool City Tournament.
• Cash Morrell, Cochranton: He recorded a pin in the 172 final at the Tool City Tournament.
• Chase Karenbauer, Grove City: He won the 114 gold medal at the Powerade Tournament.
• Rocky Kowle, North East: He won the 127 titlist at the Southmoreland Holiday Classic.
• Landon Nickerson, Corry: His silver medal effort helped the Beavers place third at the Southmoreland Holiday Classic.

Girls Wrestling

• Chloe Zacherl, McDowell: She won the 130-pound gold medal at Curwensville High School’s tournament. She also won the same weight class at Clearfield’s Lady Bison Tournament.
• Charli Rea, Northwestern: She won the 190 weight class at Curwensville’s tournament.

Boys Swimming

• Jack Raimy, Cathedral Prep: The Colgate University recruit won four times in a tri-meet against Hathaway Brown and Canisius High School.

Hockey

• Chris Bruschi, Cathedral Prep: The senior forward was one of three Ramblers chosen for the PIHL’s 2026 Class AA all-star game.
• Ryan Yunik, Meadville: He was one of three Bulldogs selected for the PIHL’s 2026 Class A all-star game.
