A particularly harsh comment stated: “Insane how Tony Romo has found a career he’s worse at than playing football.” Another fan expressed frustration with the pair’s focus on the weather, writing: “This CBS crew, including mostly the insufferable Tony Romo, has spent the entire third quarter and now into the fourth talking about the weather. CBS has acknowledged the backlash against Romo but has remained unbothered by the negative feedback. In fact, the network has even expressed frustration with the criticism.

Romo has addressed the recent criticism, which seems to be a recurring issue for color commentators following Tom Brady’s move to FOX in 2024.

“I think anytime you’re in a position like we are, we’re on the air for three and a half hours,” Romo said. “You’re always trying to do the best you can and everything, and there’s always moments where there’s great stuff. Then other stuff. It’s just part of being in your position. You just go back to work, and you do a great job. That’s the fun part about this – it’s sports, and it makes it fun. We’re just trying to make everyone enjoy the show, learn a little bit, and have a great time.”
