Super Bowl LX is set to take place in Santa Clara on Sunday, February 8, as the New England Patriots face off against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL championship. This matchup marks a rematch of Super Bowl 49, but with a completely different cast of players and coaches. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are no longer leading the Patriots, and Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson, and Marshawn Lynch are not part of the Seahawks’ current roster. Both teams have new leaders and new opportunities to make history on football’s biggest stage.

This Super Bowl matchup is a surprise based on preseason expectations. The Patriots were coming off a 4-win season, and even their most optimistic fans didn’t think Mike Vrabel would lead them this far in his first year as head coach. While Drake Maye hasn’t translated his MVP-caliber season into the playoffs, he’s still a high-upside quarterback who can make all the throws and has plus mobility. However, the Patriots haven’t given him great weapons this year, and the offensive line has had some issues. Despite this, Maye has made several superhuman throws to put the Patriots in position to get lucky.

The schedule has been so soft along the way, and the Patriots have never faced anything like the Seahawks. Seattle has an elite defense and a much better offense than what New England saw in the snowy AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos. Sam Darnold hasn’t turned into a pumpkin yet, and he’s been doing a good job getting the ball to Smith-Njigba while also spreading it around to the rest of his weapons. Seattle has elite players on the defensive line and in the secondary, making them a team with clear strengths and few weaknesses.

Why the Seahawks Are the Better Choice

Seattle has passed so many more tests than the Patriots have. While New England might have the edge at quarterback, it feels like Seattle has the advantage at most other position groups. Darnold doesn’t need to be great—he just needs to be solid, and he’s been exactly that all year. Seattle looked like the most complete team entering the playoffs, and now they’re about to make it a reality.
