A Dominant Performance from the Sixers

The Philadelphia 76ers have been on a roll, securing their third consecutive win by defeating the New York Knicks 130-119 on Saturday. This marks the second time they’ve beaten the Knicks in a row, showcasing their growing dominance.

The backcourt of the 76ers once again stole the spotlight at Madison Square Garden. Tyrese Maxey led all scorers with an impressive 36 points, shooting 14-of-22 from the field. VJ Edgecombe also contributed significantly with 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Joel Embiid continued his streak of scoring 20+ points, finishing with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Paul George added 15 points to the team’s effort. On the other side, Jalen Brunson was the top scorer for the Knicks with 31 points.

The 76ers were missing Kelly Oubre Jr. and Trendon Watford, while the Knicks were without Josh Hart and Landry Shamet. With this win, the 76ers improved their record to 19-14 and are set to host the Denver Nuggets on Monday.

First Quarter: A Competitive Start

The first quarter was filled with energy and intensity. Joel Embiid faced some boos from the crowd, but he quickly responded with a strong performance. He made his first three shots of the game, including an and-1 after backing down Mitchell Robinson from the block. The 76ers began the second quarter with a strong start, thanks to VJ Edgecombe. He hit a pair of pull-up threes and made a contested layup in traffic, leading a 9-0 run. Jared McCain eventually got a shot to go, hitting a long three-pointer that prompted a New York timeout.

The 76ers’ defense was effective, recording three steals in the quarter, all of which turned into baskets. Edgecombe continued to be hot from beyond the arc, and the offense really picked up when Maxey and Embiid returned to the game. Despite a few sloppy plays that cost them a double-digit lead, the 76ers entered halftime with an eight-point advantage.

Third Quarter: Maintaining Control

They created opportunities for Embiid and Maxey, who not only scored inside but also set up threes for George and open lanes for Dominick Barlow. Maxey remained in rhythm, hitting everything he could find space for, adding 11 points in the quarter.

Despite a weak close to the quarter, the 76ers maintained a comfortable lead. A potential and-1 was missed by Robinson, and Maxey turned the ball over, allowing the Knicks to cut the lead to 12 points.

Fourth Quarter: Sealing the Victory

In the fourth quarter, Karl-Anthony Towns finally found some success against the 76ers’ big men, scoring six points early in the quarter. VJ Edgecombe continued to be a force, blocking a Mikal Bridges three and making a transition dunk that led to a timeout.

The 76ers’ defense held strong, especially against the front court matchup. Embiid moved well inside, and Robinson was in foul trouble throughout the quarter. While the Knicks shot the three-ball well, the 76ers managed to keep the lead. A crucial play came when PG secured an offensive rebound, leading to a Quentin Grimes putback.
