“An aggressive call, knew they were going to play us in single-high right there and Rico slipped on the exchange. We took a shot right there. I liked the call. I liked the opportunity is presented us right there in the red zone to take advantage of it, and we didn’t get it done.”

When asked what he was looking to throw to, Canales declined to elaborate further.

While Canales isn’t wrong in calling the play aggressive, the decision came under scrutiny. With the division on the line, it’s understandable that a team might try to outsmart its opponent. However, the Panthers were only 20 yards away from the end zone and had at least three downs to work with. Instead of going for a high-risk play, a more conservative approach might have led to a field goal, which could have secured a win.
