Wisconsin Badgers Add Jacob Harris to Tight End Room

The Wisconsin Badgers have made a significant addition to their tight end position by bringing in Jacob Harris, a transfer from Bowling Green. Harris officially committed to the program after visiting Madison and meeting with the coaching staff. His decision came just a day after his visit, announced through Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Harris, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 255 pounds, originally played as a wide receiver in the 2023 class before transitioning to tight end in 2024. He gained over 50 pounds to better fit the physical demands of the position, resulting in a prototypical frame for a tight end. This season marked his first real collegiate action, as he previously sat behind Harold Fannin Jr., now a tight end for the Cleveland Browns.

Before joining Bowling Green, Harris was a two-star recruit who signed with the Falcons in 2025. During the 2025 season, he recorded 19 receptions for 182 yards and five touchdowns, including a long of 38 yards. The team often used two tight ends, and Harris carved out a role as the secondary tight end behind Jyrin Johnson.

Tight End Position Needs Reinforcement

Tight end has been a challenge for the Badgers in recent seasons, with limited production despite efforts to develop the position. While Missouri State transfer Lance Mason showed promise this past season, the overall offensive performance fell short. Harris has the potential to become a key player for Wisconsin next season, especially as the team continues to look for a top quarterback.

Harris is not the only recent addition to the offense. Just hours before his commitment, the Badgers also added running back Abu Sama III, a former Iowa State standout. Sama, who split carries this past season, brings a dynamic presence to the backfield. Similarly, Harris can offer different looks at tight end, making him a valuable asset to the offense.

Transition from Wide Receiver to Tight End

Harris started his college career as a wide receiver but transitioned to tight end due to his blocking ability and size. His combination of receiving skills and physicality makes him a tough player to cover. With consistent playing time this past season, Harris is expected to compete for a starting role next year.

He will join returning tight ends Grant Stec and Jackson McGohan. Stec, a redshirt freshman, had five receptions for 52 yards in his first season with Wisconsin. McGohan, a redshirt sophomore, began his career at LSU and had three receptions for 35 yards this past season.

With the addition of Harris and Sama, the Badgers are building a more versatile offense.
