Highlighting the Best Performances in High School Sports

Several standout performances and exciting victories have been recorded across various high school sports, showcasing the talent and dedication of athletes in different regions. From basketball to hockey, track and field to wrestling, there are plenty of stories that highlight the competitive spirit and growth of student-players.

Girls Basketball Highlights

Naya Annigeri delivered a remarkable triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals as Medfield secured a dominant 73-50 win over Medgar Evers (NY) in the Hoophall Invitational. This performance solidified her reputation as one of the top players in the area.

In other girls basketball action, Reese Hughes led Chelmsford to a 39-31 victory over North Andover in a Merrimack Valley Conference matchup. Meanwhile, Bella Coras contributed 18 points as Norwood edged out Pentucket 55-49. Tamia Darling was also instrumental in Cathedral’s 57-29 win against Westwood, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Boys Hockey Breakdown

The Middlesex League saw some impressive performances, with Mason McLean, Jack Feeney, and Declan McLean all scoring as Melrose defeated Watertown/Wayland 3-0. In another match, Declan Daley scored twice, assisted by Alex Fivek, while Sam Griswold made 28 saves for his seventh shutout as Concord-Carlisle blanked Boston Latin 2-0.

Erik DePlacido had two goals as Masconomet defeated Peabody 4-2 in the Northeastern Conference. Jason Gillis and Anthony Parise each contributed a goal and an assist, leading Norwood to a 5-3 Tri-Valley League win over Dedham. Colin Garrity’s two goals helped Hingham secure a 7-0 nonleague win over Needham. Wyatt Goyette set a program record with 121 career points, helping Middleboro/Carver/Wareham defeat Sandwich 5-3. Ryan Avila’s game-winning goal lifted Bishop Feehan to a 2-1 upset over previously unbeaten Canton.

Girls Hockey Standouts

Gianna Cedrone made 29 saves as Billerica/Chelmsford defeated Andover 4-0 in the MVC/DCL Large division. Lindsay Butt scored twice, including her first career goal, as Milton blanked RI Storm 4-0. Addy Harrington tallied two goals as Duxbury beat Malden Catholic 3-0.

Junie McCabe, Cate Sheehan, and Courtney Fisher each found the back of the net, leading Winchester to a 3-2 win over Belmont in the Middlesex League Liberty division. Avery Tapp’s two goals helped Woburn defeat Reading 5-0, marking the Rockets’ first loss of the season. Emma Steiner, Shayla Kocur, and Sofia Cleary all scored as Burlington topped Stoneham 3-1 in the Middlesex League Freedom division.

In the Cape and Islands League, Julia Kipperman and Gaby Bassett each netted a hat trick as Nauset defeated Barnstable 7-3.

Track and Field Results

Walpole’s boys’ team claimed the MSTCA Div. 3 relays with 54 points, followed by Reading with 41 and Burlington with 34. Melrose won the girls’ division with 51.5 points, while Duxbury and Milton rounded out the top three with 43 and 33 points respectively.

Wakefield’s boys’ team took the MSTCA Div. 4 relays with 62 points, with Newburyport and Pembroke finishing second and third. Amherst-Pelham won the girls’ division with 37.5 points, and Holliston and Newburyport tied for second with 30.49 points.
