Naya Annigeri Shines with Triple-Double in Hoophall Invitational
Naya Annigeri delivered a standout performance, recording a triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals as Medfield secured a convincing 73-50 victory over Medgar Evers (NY) in the Hoophall Invitational. Her all-around dominance was a key factor in the team’s success.
In other girls basketball action, Reese Hughes led Chelmsford to a 39-31 win over North Andover in a Merrimack Valley Conference matchup. Hughes contributed 10 points to the team’s effort. Meanwhile, Bella Coras scored 18 points as Norwood defeated Pentucket 55-49. Tamia Darling added 17 points and 11 rebounds in Cathedral’s 57-29 victory over Westwood.
Boys Hockey Highlights
In the Middlesex League, Melrose dominated Watertown/Wayland with a 3-0 shutout. Mason McLean, Jack Feeney, and Declan McLean each found the back of the net. In another game, Declan Daley scored twice, assisted by Alex Fivek, as Sam Griswold made 28 saves for his seventh shutout in Concord-Carlisle’s 2-0 win over Boston Latin.
In the Northeastern Conference, Erik DePlacido scored two goals as Masconomet defeated Peabody 4-2. Jason Gillis and Anthony Parise each contributed a goal and an assist, leading Norwood to a 5-3 Tri-Valley League win over Dedham. Colin Garrity scored twice in Hingham’s 7-0 nonleague victory over Needham. Wyatt Goyette reached a career milestone, scoring a goal and two assists to surpass 121 career points, helping Middleboro/Carver/Wareham defeat Sandwich 5-3. Ryan Avila’s game-winning goal gave Bishop Feehan a 2-1 upset victory over previously unbeaten Canton.
Girls Hockey Standouts
Gianna Cedrone made 29 saves, while four different players scored, leading Billerica/Chelmsford to a 4-0 MVC/DCL Large win over Andover. Lindsay Butt scored twice, including her first career goal, as Milton defeated RI Storm 4-0. Addy Harrington tallied two goals as Duxbury blanked Malden Catholic 3-0.
Junie McCabe, Cate Sheehan, and Courtney Fisher each scored for Winchester, helping the team secure a 3-2 win over Belmont in the Middlesex League Liberty division. Avery Tapp scored both goals as Woburn defeated Reading 5-0, ending the Rockets’ undefeated season. Emma Steiner, Shayla Kocur, and Sofia Cleary each found the net as Burlington defeated Stoneham 3-1 in the Middlesex League Freedom division.
In the Cape and Islands League, Julia Kipperman and Gaby Bassett each scored a hat trick as Nauset defeated Barnstable 7-3.
Track and Field Results
Walpole’s boys’ team took first place in the MSTCA Div. 3 relays with 54 points, followed by Reading (41 points) and Burlington (34 points). On the girls’ side, Melrose won with 51.5 points, while Duxbury (43 points) and Milton (33 points) rounded out the top three.
Wakefield’s boys’ team claimed the MSTCA Div. 4 relays with 62 points, with Newburyport (53 points) and Pembroke (51 points) finishing second and third. Amherst-Pelham won the girls’ division with 37.5 points, while Holliston and Newburyport tied for second with 30.49 points.
