Loyalty Dropped if Giannis Enters the Scene
The Business of the NBA: A New Era of Uncertainty
The world of the NBA is known for its unpredictable nature, where loyalty often takes a backseat to strategic moves. This reality was starkly highlighted last season when Luka Doncic was traded from the Mavericks to the Lakers in one of the most shocking trades in league history. That move served as a reminder that no player is untouchable, and it raised questions about what could happen next.
Draymond Green’s potential trade has sparked significant concern, especially if it involves a deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo. The idea of Green being on the trading block is unsettling for many fans and analysts alike. He is more than just a player; he’s a key component of the Warriors’ identity and success.

According to reports, Jimmy Butler’s contract is unlikely to be involved in a trade for Antetokounmpo after his recent ACL injury. This means that Green’s contract would be necessary to match salaries in a potential deal that could also include Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, four first-round picks (2026, 2028, 2030, 2032), and one first-round swap (2031). Losing Green would be a major blow for the Warriors, who have built their success around his contributions.
Green is the heart and soul of the team, with Coach Steve Kerr often referring to him as such. His defensive skills and leadership have been instrumental in the Warriors’ rise to dominance. The thought of him leaving the team is disheartening, especially considering his long tenure with the franchise.

Green’s journey from being the 35th overall pick in the 2012 draft to becoming one of the best defenders in NBA history is a testament to his dedication and hard work. He helped the Warriors become a dynasty, winning four championships in eight years from 2015 to 2022. His role as a playmaker and defender has been crucial to the team’s success.
Despite the uncertainty, Green remains composed and accepting of his fate. “I’ve been here for 14 years,” he said. “I have no reason to sit and worry about leaving. But if I’m traded, that’s part of the business. So, it is what it is. I ain’t losing no sleep, though. I slept great last night.”

The question remains: would the Warriors still be a championship contender without Green? His ability to compensate for any physical decline with his basketball IQ makes him an irreplaceable asset. As a “glue guy,” his contributions are often overlooked but essential for the team’s success.
The possibility of Green being traded in a deal for Antetokounmpo raises concerns about the future of the Warriors. While acquiring a generational talent like Antetokounmpo could rejuvenate the team, the loss of Green would be a significant setback.
Green’s journey with the Warriors has been remarkable, and his desire to remain with the team until retirement was well-earned. However, the availability of a player like Antetokounmpo has shifted the landscape, making even the most loyal players vulnerable to trade.
“I know just as much as you guys know,” Green said on his podcast. “I’ve read what you read. I don’t know. But I know it’s very stressful. So, we’ll see.”
The situation highlights the harsh realities of the NBA, where loyalty is often secondary to the pursuit of greatness. As the Warriors navigate this uncertain period, the impact of Green’s potential departure will be felt both on and off the court.
