India’s T20I Dominance Sends Shockwaves Across the Cricket World

Former India captain and World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth has been vocal about India’s incredible form in T20I cricket, expressing his belief that teams around the globe will be terrified of facing Suryakumar Yadav’s squad at the upcoming T20 World Cup. The tournament is set to begin on February 7, and Srikkanth even went as far as jokingly urging Pakistan to skip the event.

Srikkanth made these remarks following India’s impressive performance in their ongoing five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which serves as a final preparation before the World Cup. On Sunday, India chased down a challenging target of 154 runs in just 10 overs, showcasing their dominance with a thrilling victory.

Abhishek Sharma played a crucial role in the win, hitting a 14-ball fifty, while captain Suryakumar Yadav contributed a blistering 57 off 26 balls in Guwahati. This performance marked the second-fastest chase of a total of 150 or more in T20I cricket history. India didn’t allow New Zealand to bowl even a single over that cost fewer than 10 runs, securing the win with eight wickets in hand and 60 balls to spare. This brought their lead in the series to 3-0.

The victory came just days after India set a new record for the fastest chase of a 200-plus target by a Full Member nation in T20I cricket, scoring 209 in 15.2 overs. Srikkanth was clearly impressed by India’s relentless performance, stating:

“In the last match, India scored 209 in 15 overs. In this match, they scored 150 in 10 overs. Seeing this, many teams might say ‘no, we are not coming. You can keep the cup.’ Hey Pakistan, don’t come. Your man Mohsin Naqvi has been talking about it — don’t come. You will be thrashed. A six hit in Colombo will land in Madras. Beware. The best option is to stay away. Find an excuse and don’t come.”

Srikkanth added, “These boys will thrash them hard. This will send an alarming signal to every cricket team in the world. This kind of hitting in T20 cricket — I have never seen anything like it.”

Will Pakistan Boycott the T20 World Cup?

Srikkanth’s comments came in the wake of Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi expressing uncertainty about participating in the T20 World Cup. He also criticized the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not supporting Bangladesh’s request to move their matches out of India. However, Pakistan recently announced their T20 World Cup squad, suggesting they are likely to take part in the tournament.

The ICC, which replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the 20-team T20 World Cup, has warned Pakistan of severe sanctions if they pull out of the event, according to sources cited by India Today.

India and Pakistan are drawn in the same group in the T20 World Cup, along with the USA, Namibia, and the Netherlands. India will face Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo, after opening their campaign against the USA on February 7 in Mumbai and taking on Namibia on February 12 in Delhi.

Abhishek Sharma’s Effortless Elegance

In addition to praising the team’s overall performance, Srikkanth highlighted the extraordinary efforts of Abhishek Sharma. He described the 25-year-old from Punjab as someone who plays with effortless ease, making big-hitting look simple.

“This type of consistency in strike rate and effortlessness. He got those runs without looking like he worked hard for them. The point is he is playing with effortless ease. That bat swing is great, hitting sixes effortlessly over mid-wicket, covers and in the V. If you bowl short, he will put you for a six. He has got shots all over the wicket. The bowlers are not sure where to bowl to him. The bowlers are scared,” Srikkanth said.

Abhishek’s 14-ball fifty was the second-fastest by an Indian in the shortest format of the game. His performances have elevated T20I batting to a new level, with 1,267 runs at an average of nearly 40 and a staggering strike rate of 195.22 in 36 matches.
