A new criminal investigation has revealed that former Oregon Ducks guard Jalen Terry is among 26 basketball players involved in a federal case. The case includes more than a dozen NCAA-level athletes and others in the Chinese Basketball Association, all allegedly involved in fixing games.

Terry was reportedly part of point shaving during three games. These incidents occurred during the first halves of matches against the DePaul Blue Demons in the 2023-24 Big East Conference season. Additionally, two other games were affected when he played for the Eastern Michigan Eagles during his final college season in 2024-25.

There were no reported incidents during Terry’s time with the Ducks in the 2020-21 season. The charges in the federal indictment include bribery, wire fraud, and conspiracy, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Prosecutors allege that crimes involving 17 NCAA Division I teams and over 29 games were tied to prominent gamblers who placed bets and recruited players to underperform in exchange for a share of the winnings. These fixers then bet against the players’ teams, as per authorities.

U.S. Attorney David Metcalf described the case as an “international criminal conspiracy” and highlighted the significant corruption it represents in sports integrity.

The FBI’s ongoing investigation may reveal more names as it progresses. This case is part of a growing trend of gambling scandals, especially with the rise of legal sports betting across the United States. These issues are not limited to college and international basketball but also affect the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball.

Jalen Terry’s Background

Terry was a three-star recruit (per On3) coming out of high school. He played five seasons in college basketball, starting with Oregon in the 2020-21 season. He then joined DePaul for three seasons from 2021-24, following former Blue Demons head coach Tony Stubblefield. Finally, he played his last season at Eastern Michigan in 2024-25, closer to his home in Flint, Michigan.

During his freshman year with the Ducks, the 6-1 backup point guard averaged 2.9 points, shooting 38.5% from the field, 39.5% from beyond the arc, and 80.0% from the free-throw line. In 20 appearances (including one start), he contributed 1.2 assists and 1.1 rebounds while playing 11.6 minutes per game under coach Dana Altman.

Over his college career, Terry averaged 9.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.9 steals per game.

Former DePaul guard Da’Sean Nelson, along with forward Mac Eitenne, who reportedly recruited teammates to be part of the scheme while communicating with bettors, was also named in the federal indictment for fixing games alongside Terry in Chicago, Illinois.

Nelson was also implicated in point shaving alongside Terry in Ypsilanti, Michigan, during his time with the Eagles.
