DJ Lagway’s Potential Visit to Florida State Adds Excitement to Rivalry

Former Florida Gators starting quarterback DJ Lagway is expected to make a visit to Florida State in the near future, according to reports from Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong. This potential trip could add an extra layer of intensity to an already fierce rivalry between the two programs.

Lagway, once considered a top prospect and a key figure for the Gators, entered the transfer portal following a challenging 2025 season. During that time, he threw for 2,264 yards and 16 touchdowns but also recorded 14 interceptions. “Obviously want to see who we bring in. At this point, I’m a Florida Gator. I’m happy and blessed to be here, so yeah,” Lagway stated toward the end of the season. “In due time, you know, we’re going to get this thing rolling…we just got to continue to get better, you know, we got the young pieces, we got the pieces around us. Just got to execute and continue to get better.”

Despite the initial challenges with the new Florida staff, Lagway’s potential move to Florida State has sparked renewed interest in the rivalry. Although no official visit has been scheduled yet, it is expected that he will soon make the trip to Tallahassee.

“I think it’s pretty cool just to see the stadium. You always watch and see it on TV, the horse and stuff like that in the middle of the field. It’s pretty cool to go there and see that and then go play and get the dub, especially in Doak Stadium, so it was good,” Lagway shared after playing Florida State as a freshman.

Sumrall and the Gators are set to travel to Doak Campbell Stadium next year for their annual rivalry game on November 28. With Florida having won their last two matchups against FSU, the upcoming contest is expected to be highly anticipated. If Lagway ends up under center for Florida State, the game could become even more exciting.
