Overview of the 6A Division State Qualifying Meets

The state-qualifying meets for the 6A Division took place on Saturday, with tournament favorites Layton and Corner Canyon performing as expected. These teams secured their positions in the upcoming 6A state tournament, which will be held at UVU on February 12-13.

Layton, a three-time 6A state champion, emerged victorious by defeating Syracuse to claim the Division A title. Meanwhile, Corner Canyon defeated Riverton to win the Division B title. Both teams showcased strong performances, securing numerous spots for their wrestlers in the state tournament.

Layton’s Dominance in Division A

At the Division A meet held at Syracuse High School, Layton amassed a total of 355.5 points, outpacing runner-up Syracuse, which scored 328 points. The Lancers qualified an impressive 23 wrestlers for the state tournament, highlighting their dominance in the division.

In addition to team success, several individual athletes are looking to make history. Mason Carlson, a senior from Syracuse, is just four wins away from becoming a four-time individual state champion. Layton seniors Austin Paris and Noah Bull are also aiming for their fourth and third individual titles, respectively.

Other wrestlers who are hoping to repeat as state champions include Riverton junior Easton Olson, Skyridge sophomore Jacob Millward, and Layton seniors Lander Bosh, Elijah Hawes, and Westlake senior Kaizen Detoles.

Corner Canyon’s Victory in Division B
