A heavy snowstorm that hit over the weekend is expected to have lasting impacts through Monday, January 26. Several universities, businesses, and local institutions in Indianapolis have closed their doors to allow for the clearing of roads and sidewalks after nearly a foot of snowfall. In response, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett issued a strict travel advisory on Sunday afternoon, urging residents to avoid using the roads unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Here is a list of closures around Indianapolis on Monday:

• Indianapolis Public Libraries: All branches will be closed on Monday, January 26, due to the severe weather conditions. The libraries usually act as warming centers during such times. For information on alternative warming centers, visit the relevant resources.

• Warming Centers: Residents can find locations where they can seek shelter and stay warm during the winter storm in Indianapolis.

• Indianapolis City and County Offices: These offices will also remain closed on Monday, according to a spokesperson from the Mayor’s Office.

• Carmel Clay Public Library: The library in Carmel has announced that it will be closed on Monday due to the weather conditions. This was shared by the library on its Facebook page.

• Indiana General Assembly: The Indiana State Senate has canceled all committee meetings scheduled for Monday. Any bills that were supposed to be discussed on Monday will now be heard on Tuesday at the same time. The Senate will hold its regular session at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

• Indiana House of Representatives: The House has canceled its session and all committee meetings for Monday.

• Indianapolis Zoo: The zoo has decided to close on Monday due to the severe weather. Visitors who have already purchased tickets can use them within the next year. Those with questions about refunds or ticket details can contact guestrelations@indyzoo.com. Essential staff will be present to ensure the animals are properly cared for.

Colleges and universities

Several Indiana colleges and universities are holding classes virtually and will have limited operations Monday, instructing non-essential personnel to not report to campus.

These campuses include Indiana University, Butler University, Marian University, Ball State University, Indiana University Indianapolis and Purdue University in Indianapolis.

At Purdue University, in-person classes will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Jewish Community Center

The Indianapolis Jewish Community Center, or JCC, will be closed Monday, Jan. 26 due to weather and hazardous driving conditions, according to an email.

YMCA branches

All Indianapolis YMCA branches will remain closed on Monday, Jan. 26 due to inclement weather.

The Eiteljorg Museum

The Eiteljorg Museum will be closed Monday, Jan. 26 for a staff reset day to prepare for upcoming exhibits and will reopen Tuesday. The museum was closed Sunday due to severe weather conditions.

Koteewi Run

Koteewi Run in Noblesville, the singular groomed snow-tubing hill in Central Indiana, will be closed Monday, Jan. 26, Hamilton County officials said.

Local restaurants

Several Indianapolis restaurants posted online they would be closed Monday due to weather. Check an individual restaurant’s website and social media for the most up-to-date hours.
