The college football world has been introduced to University of Indiana wide receiver Charlie Becker over the past few months — a period that also marked the Hoosiers and their fans getting to know him. At 6-foot-4 and 204 pounds, Becker has emerged as one of Indiana’s standout performers in the postseason. His breakout performance came in a 13-10 victory over No. 1 Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game, where he recorded 6 receptions for 126 yards.

Indiana entered the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against the Miami Hurricanes with an impressive 15-0 record. Becker had already made a significant impact, accumulating 30 receptions for 614 yards and 4 touchdowns heading into the CFP championship. In the last six games, he totaled 23 receptions for 457 yards and 4 touchdowns, including crucial touchdown catches in Indiana’s CFP wins over Alabama and Oregon.

NFL influencer Bengal YouTube highlighted the receiving trio of Elijah Sarratt, Charlie Becker, and Omar Cooper Jr., calling them one of the most exciting groups in recent memory. PFF College Football noted that quarterback Fernando Mendoza had a 152.5 passer rating when targeting Becker, which was the highest among all QB/WR duos in college football.

A Legacy of Athletic Excellence

Becker comes from a family deeply rooted in athletic excellence. His father, Dave Becker, was a former linebacker at Ohio State and a professional baseball player. Dave starred as a linebacker in football and as a catcher in baseball at Cincinnati Elder High School. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 18th round of the 1992 MLB draft and played three seasons of minor league baseball before returning to football and enrolling at Ohio State, where he played linebacker.

Charlie’s older brother, Cole Becker, continues the family legacy by playing linebacker for Appalachian State. Both Charlie and Cole excelled at Father Ryan High School in Nashville, Tennessee, a private Catholic school. Charlie first showcased his world-class athleticism at Father Ryan, where he not only excelled in football but also in track and field. As a junior in 2022, he won two state championships in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.

From Tennessee Prep to IU Star

Charlie Becker was rated as a 3-star recruit by 247Sports and ranked as the No. 15 recruit in Tennessee for the Class of 2024. He committed to the Hoosiers in June 2023, choosing Indiana over offers from Northwestern, Iowa, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt.

Evaluating Charlie Becker’s NFL Prospects

While Charlie Becker could be a high draft pick, it might not happen until 2027. He still has one more season of college football left before becoming eligible for the NFL draft. He will be part of a strong class of wide receivers, including Big Ten rival and Ohio State star Jeremiah Smith, who is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick.
