The Arizona Wildcats have experienced several firsts this week, including their first road game of the season and their first encounter with a ranked opponent. On Wednesday, they faced Colorado and suffered a 75-56 loss. Then, on Saturday, they took on No. 21 Texas Tech and lost again, this time by a score of 80-49.

Despite the losses, there were moments of promise for the Wildcats. However, turnovers continued to be a significant issue. In the game against Texas Tech, Arizona recorded 17 turnovers, with 12 occurring in the first half. This was better than what the Lady Raiders typically force, as they entered the game averaging 20.8 turnovers per game. The Wildcats managed to limit their own turnovers to just four fewer than that average, while also forcing 14 on the other end. This resulted in a 3.0 turnover margin, which was below the 5.2 margin that Texas Tech has enjoyed this season.

Scoring and Performance Highlights

Arizona managed to score at least 10 points in each quarter, showing some consistency in their offensive efforts. They left behind the struggles from their previous games, such as the four-point second quarter against Utah and the five-point first quarter against Colorado. However, these positive aspects were overshadowed by their defensive shortcomings.

Texas Tech shot an impressive 42 percent from three-point range and 47 percent overall. In response, Arizona struggled to find their rhythm, shooting only 35 percent from the field and 25 percent from beyond the arc. Leading scorer Micky Perdue was held to nine points on 3-of-11 shooting. Despite this, she contributed significantly by leading the team with four steals, two rebounds, and an assist.

Tanyuel Welch’s Strong Performance

Junior guard Tanyuel Welch was the standout performer for Arizona, finishing with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting.
