UCF Quarterbacks All Enter Transfer Portal

All three quarterbacks who competed for the starting position on the UCF Knights during fall camp have now entered the transfer portal. This development includes Cam Fancher, who joined Tayven Jackson and Jacurri Brown in making the move. The news was shared by On3’s Pete Nakos on Saturday morning.

Fancher, who transferred to UCF from Florida Atlantic last offseason, was initially named the starter for the season-opener. However, injuries limited his playing time, as he only appeared in three games, starting two of them. In those games, he completed 41 of his 72 passes for 333 yards and added 31 rushing attempts for 170 yards and a touchdown.

UCF head coach Scott Frost had previously stated that the program was working to grant Fancher an extra season of eligibility. However, as of January 3, no such extension has been officially granted.

With Fancher’s decision to enter the transfer portal, rising sophomore Davi Belfort is the only quarterback left on the Knights’ roster who saw action under center during games this past season. UCF also has two incoming freshmen quarterbacks for the 2026 season: Rocco Marriott and Dante Carr.

Fancher is the latest in a series of UCF players who have announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal in the days leading up to and following its opening on January 2.

Other UCF Players Joining the Transfer Portal

Defensive back Jaeden Gould was among the first to announce his plans to enter the transfer portal, with the news breaking on New Year’s Eve. A transfer from Syracuse, Gould played in all 12 games this past season, mostly off the bench, recording five tackles (three solo) and one pass breakup. He is the seventh UCF defensive back to enter the portal this offseason, though none of them have started in more than one game.

Wide receiver DJ Black also made headlines when reports surfaced on New Year’s Day that he planned to enter the transfer portal. Black, a transfer from Limestone University—a Division II school that is no longer active—started in 11 of the 12 games he played this past season. He caught 22 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning reception against Jacksonville State.

Linebacker Troy Ford Jr. became the first UCF player to announce his intention to enter the transfer portal after its official opening on January 2. Ford primarily contributed on special teams, appearing in seven games and recording three solo tackles. He is the fourth UCF linebacker to join the portal, which, combined with losses to graduation, leaves only two linebackers eligible to return in 2026: Lewis Carter and Phil Picciotti.

Impact on UCF’s Roster

Fancher marks the 28th UCF player overall to enter the transfer portal this offseason. This means that 25%, or a quarter, of the initial 112-player roster from UCF’s season-opener is now in the transfer portal.
