Brock Purdy’s Siblings: Meet the 49ers QB’s Sister Whittney and Brother Chubba
The Purdy Family: A Legacy of Athletic Excellence
Brock Purdy, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, is not just a standout athlete in his own right — he comes from a family where sports are deeply embedded in their daily lives. His older sister, Whittney, and younger brother, Chubba, have also carved out successful athletic careers, each making their mark in different ways.
Brock, Whittney, and Chubba: Growing Up in Arizona
The Purdy siblings were raised in Gilbert, Arizona, a city known for its strong sports culture and year-round training opportunities. Their parents, Shawn and Carrie, recognized the potential for athletic development in the area and made it their home. As a result, all three children grew up immersed in sports, developing a competitive spirit that would define their futures.
Whittney, the oldest, played collegiate softball, while Chubba, the youngest, signed to play football at the University of Nevada. Meanwhile, Brock became a rising star in the NFL, despite being the last pick of the 2022 draft.
A Competitive Bond Between Brothers
From an early age, Brock and Chubba shared a fierce rivalry on the field. Chubba has often spoken about how competition was a big part of their relationship. “Ever since we were little, competition has been everything,” he said. Whether it was throwing challenges or testing their skills, the two brothers always pushed each other to be better.
Shawn, their father, recalls that when the brothers were together, “the gloves [came] off.” This competitive nature helped shape both of their athletic careers, with Chubba often looking up to his older brother as a mentor and role model.
Chubba’s Unique Nickname
Chubba’s nickname originated from his infancy. At just one year old, he weighed 32 pounds, which led his father to affectionately call him “Chubba.” The name stuck and eventually became his professional identity. Chubba even plans to legally change his first name to “Chubba” in the near future, as he feels it represents who he is more than his birth name.
Whittney’s Athletic Journey
Whittney was the first of the Purdy siblings to pursue college athletics. She played softball at Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina before transferring to Southeastern University, where she finished her career playing third base and shortstop. While she may have had a stronger arm than her younger brother, she never used it to belittle him, showing the kind of maturity that defined her character.
Chubba’s Football Path
Chubba’s football journey has taken him through multiple schools. He initially committed to San Jose State University but later changed his mind, opting to join the University of Nevada instead. Before that, he played at Florida State University and the University of Nebraska, where he made 12 game appearances. His experience in various programs has helped him grow as a player and prepare for the next stage of his career.
Whittney and Jenna: A New Family Dynamic
Whittney has always been close to her brother’s wife, Jenna Brandt. She was present when Brock proposed to Jenna and celebrated their wedding in April 2024. Whittney took to Instagram to share her excitement, posting photos of the event and welcoming Jenna into the family. The two women even went on a trip to Telluride, Colorado, for Jenna’s bachelorette party, further strengthening their bond.
Jenna and Brock welcomed their first child, Millie Joleen, in July 2025, adding another chapter to the Purdy family story.
Chubba’s Gratitude for Brock’s Influence
Chubba has often credited his older brother for shaping his football career. In a March 2022 interview, he spoke about how Brock taught him essential skills like reading defenses and understanding the game. “My brother has helped me a ton in life and football,” Chubba said. He emphasized how much he appreciates the guidance and support his brother has provided over the years.
