Brooks Koepka Returns to PGA Tour at 2026 Farmers Insurance Open

The California Swing Heads to San Diego

The PGA Tour’s 2026 season continues its California swing with the Farmers Insurance Open, taking place at the scenic Torrey Pines Golf Course. This event has drawn significant attention, especially due to the return of five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, who is making his long-awaited comeback to the PGA Tour after spending years with LIV Golf.

Koepka, 35, made headlines in December when he announced his departure from LIV Golf. Just three weeks later, he was back on the PGA Tour through the “Returning Member Program,” which allows him to compete with certain restrictions. These limitations mean he cannot play in signature events unless he qualifies, but non-signature events like the Farmers Insurance Open are on his schedule.

Importantly, Koepka’s participation does not cost a spot for another Tour member. The field this week will consist of 147 players, including the usual 144 plus Koepka and two additional players from the alternate list to fill out threesomes.

A Star-Studded Field

This year’s tournament features a strong lineup of top-tier golfers. Three players ranked in the world’s top 10 are in the field: California natives Xander Schauffele and J.J. Spaun, along with 2019 champion Justin Rose. Additionally, 10 of the top 20 golfers globally have entered the competition. Harris English, the defending champion, returns as one of the favorites.

The course will be played over two days on the South course and the more forgiving North course, with all players moving to the South course for the weekend following the cut.

Koepka’s History at the Farmers Insurance Open

Brooks Koepka has appeared in the Farmers Insurance Open four times before, but only once has he made the cut—during his first appearance in 2015. Since then, he has missed the cut in three of his subsequent starts, with only one round under par recorded in his last appearance in 2022.

His return to the PGA Tour marks a significant moment for both him and the tour, as it signals a shift in the competitive landscape of professional golf.

The Future of the Farmers Insurance Open

This year also marks the final year of Farmers Insurance as the sponsor of the San Diego event. There is likely to be much discussion about the future of the tournament, especially given PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp’s vision for creating more scarcity and simplicity in the Tour’s schedule.
