That’s a significant financial commitment, especially considering his performance in the playoffs and his position behind Nix on the depth chart.

Additionally, Stidham earned just under $2 million in base salary for 2025 and is owed nearly $6 million in 2026. Given his expiring contract and lackluster performance, retaining him could be a costly decision for the Broncos.

Should the Broncos Trade or Cut Jarrett Stidham?

With the NFL Draft approaching in April, the Broncos’ front office must evaluate their options regarding Stidham. General Manager George Paton may need to start making calls soon. Trading Stidham would save the team a considerable amount of money compared to cutting him—$6.5 million versus $4.5 million.

However, finding a trade partner could be challenging. There are few starting-caliber quarterbacks in this year’s draft outside of Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza. Most other prospects are likely to sit on the bench and cost teams less money.

That said, some teams may prefer a veteran over a rookie, especially after a single game of sample size. Teams like the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, and Pittsburgh Steelers may be interested in Stidham, depending on their quarterback situations.

Will Bo Nix Be Ready for the 2026 Season?

Bo Nix is expected to be fully healthy by the start of the 2026 offseason programs after undergoing surgery to repair his broken ankle. He is projected to be ready for football activities after 12 weeks, meaning he should be in good shape for the start of training camp.

Nix, who led the Broncos to 14 wins in 2025, shouldn’t have any issues keeping his starting job. Even if the Broncos choose to keep Stidham as a backup, Nix’s performance ensures he remains the team’s top option.
