According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, Wright is ranked as the No. 38 recruit in the nation, the No. 5 cornerback, and the No. 5 player from California. The Ducks, led by coach Dan Lanning, have built a dominant defense and could be in a position to make a move for Wright’s commitment.

Donte Wright to Possibly Flip Commitment to Oregon

As reported by Rivals journalist Steve Wiltfong, if any team is going to flip Wright’s commitment, it is likely to be the Oregon Ducks. They have been actively pursuing him, and during the weekend, they hosted several recruits, including Wright. After the visit, Wright praised the Ducks and their environment.

“The environment is great, a lot of top 27’ recruits are out,” Wright told Rivals. “They have been great to me and my mom, and Coach Dan and I continue to build our relationship. I see what he is trying to do with this talent out here.”

Other programs that could potentially flip Wright include the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins. As a native of California, Wright has had a natural connection with those schools, but the Ducks are making a compelling case for him to consider their program.

Wright has emphasized his communication with Lanning, which positions the Ducks well in their efforts to flip his commitment. With consistent interaction from the head coach, Lanning can show Wright that he is a priority for the Ducks. Since taking over the program, Lanning has guided the Ducks toward a more competitive direction, leading them to the College Football Playoff in consecutive seasons. The stability provided by Lanning’s continued leadership is something that many recruits look for when choosing a school.

The Ducks also offer playing time to true freshmen who have earned it. Lanning’s philosophy is that if a player is good enough, they are old enough. This approach has proven successful, as evidenced by the performance of true freshmen on the team.

Lanning proved that to be true as Oregon started many true freshmen throughout the 2025 season, notably cornerback Brandon Finney Jr. Finney not only became a top freshman on the team but also emerged as an elite cornerback. He recorded 42 total tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, and three interceptions.

Oregon’s 2027 Recruiting Class Grows

The Oregon Ducks have already secured two commitments for their 2027 recruiting class. While it is still early, the Ducks’ 2027 class is ranked No. 35 in the nation according to 247Sports.

Four-star defensive lineman Cameron Pritchett committed to the program in June and recently confirmed that he remains committed to the Ducks. On January 24, the Ducks received their second commitment, three-star athlete Sam Ngata. Ngata is the son of former Oregon Ducks linebacker Haloti Ngata and is set to continue the family legacy with the program.

If Oregon can successfully flip Wright’s commitment, it would be a significant addition to their defense and a sign that the Ducks are building another elite recruiting class.
