Arkansas Razorbacks Show Interest in Tupelo High’s Kaiden Buchanan

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Razorbacks have joined the growing list of SEC programs showing interest in Tupelo (Miss.) High School standout linebacker Kaiden Buchanan. Defensive coordinator Ron Roberts extended an offer to Buchanan earlier this week, and he plans to take a visit to the university this spring.

“The Razorbacks also stands out as another strong SEC school,” Buchanan said. “I’m looking forward to continuing build relationships with the new coaching staff.”

Buchanan, who stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 230 pounds, has seen his recruiting stock rise significantly after a standout sophomore season. In 2025, he recorded 75 total tackles, 22 quarterback hurries, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. His performance on the field was impressive, showcasing his ability to be disruptive at all levels of the game.

As a sophomore, Buchanan forced four fumbles, recovered three, and had three pass deflections, earning him recognition as a Mississippi Class 7A all-state selection. He is currently focused on building relationships with coaching staffs and planning spring visits.

According to Rivals, Buchanan is a 4-star prospect ranked No. 57 nationally, No. 4 among linebackers, and No. 4 among athletes in Mississippi for the 2028 recruiting cycle. His performance as a freshman in 2024 was equally impressive, with 108 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Growing Interest from Multiple Schools

Buchanan has attracted attention from several other schools, including Kentucky, Mississippi State, BYU, UNLV, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. While the Razorbacks don’t currently have a commitment from a 2028 prospect, new coach Ryan Silverfield and his staff have been active in offering athletes across multiple recruiting cycles.

In-state athletes with offers include Braylyn Brown (Joe T. Robinson), Jamir Lee (North Little Rock), and Kentz Brown (Dumas). The Razorbacks are actively seeking talent to strengthen their linebacker position, especially following the departure of two starters, Xavian Sorey and Stephen Dix.

Rebuilding the Linebacker Unit

The defensive coaching staff, led by Ron Roberts, has had to completely rebuild the linebacker unit. Promising players such as former 4-star freshman Tavion Wallace, freshman JJ Shelton, and redshirt freshman Justin Logan have entered the transfer portal. However, returning players like part-time starter Brad Shaw and redshirt freshman Wyatt Simmons are expected to play key roles next season.

Arkansas has also brought in immediate impact transfers, including Khmori House from North Carolina, Steven Soles from Kentucky, Phoenix Jackson from Baylor, Jeremy Evans from Baylor, and Ben Bogle from West Virginia.
