Redondo Union Boys Basketball Team Shines in Holiday Tournaments

The Redondo Union boys basketball team had a packed schedule of holiday tournaments, showcasing their skills and determination throughout the season. Before Christmas, the Sea Hawks claimed victory in the Tarkanian Classic’s Platinum Division. Last week, they made it to the finals of The Classic at Damien, where they fell to Sunnyslope of Arizona.

With these experiences under their belts, the Sea Hawks began the final stretch of the regular season with a strong performance. On Friday, they secured an 89-54 win over Santa Barbara in the Real Run Winter Classic at Morningside High. This victory highlighted their improved execution and teamwork.

“We learned that we’ve got to better execute down the stretch of games, offensively and defensively,” said Redondo coach Reggie Morris Jr. “I think they’ve realized that when you’re playing a top-notch team, the margin for errors is smaller, so I think those are things that we’ve got to add on and what we’re going to do to execute down the stretch of games.”

The Sea Hawks (15-3) didn’t face much trouble in executing their game plan on Friday. Senior guard Chace Holley was instrumental in this success, scoring a career-high 41 points. His performance was a testament to his growth and commitment to the team.

“I just wanted to come out aggressive,” Holley said. “I learned that if we come out of the gate swinging first, hitting hard and trusting each other, then we are the best team and I think that’s going to lead us the whole way through (the CIF-SS) playoffs and to the championship.”

Holley earned all-tournament honors in the Tarkanian Classic and The Classic at Damien. He transferred to Redondo before last season after two years at Lynwood. Now, he has taken on a more significant role as a point guard.

“Now, I’m more of a point guard,” he said. “I used to just score and be a second option and not really orchestrating the whole thing (offense). Now, I’m able to get to it and set my teammates up for good possessions and they can take advantage of it.”

Holley started strong, scoring 11 points in the first quarter as the Sea Hawks led 22-17. By halftime, he had 23 points, helping Redondo build a 43-26 lead. He finished the game with eight rebounds, showing his versatility on the court.

“I think he feels more comfortable,” Morris said of Holley. “Last year he had to play, with Joey (Albala) being out all year with his ankle, Chace had to play the point. It was different than what he had played before. He had to learn a new position and we had an older group, so he kind of fit in.

“He’s definitely evolving as a player. He’s playing well right now.”

Redondo’s SJ Madison contributed 16 points to the team’s success.

Inglewood’s Jason Crowe Scores 50 in Win Over St. Paul

Jason Crowe Jr. recorded his seventh 50-point game of the season as Inglewood defeated St. Paul 112-57. Crowe, the state’s all-time leading scorer, had 50 points in just three quarters of action. His career total now stands at 4,128 points.

St. Bernard Wins Del Rey League Opener

Brandon Granger and Gary Ferguson scored 21 points apiece, and Chris Rupert added 18 points to lead St. Bernard (11-7, 1-0) to an 83-74 road win over St. Pius X-St. Matthias in a Del Rey League opener.

Serra Opens Camino Real League with Win

Serra opened play in the Camino Real League with a 61-52 win over Bosco Tech. CJ Anyikwa led Serra (9-7, 1-0) with 21 points, while Drew Carter and Darryl Wasson each scored 18 points.
