Detroit Pistons Edge Boston Celtics in a Thrilling Regular Season Showdown

The Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics have had a fierce rivalry this season, with their matchups often marked by intense competition. Stewart and Cunningham each added highlight-reel blocks, rejecting Neemias Queta and Jordan Walsh respectively, which energized the crowd and the Pistons’ bench. These blocks helped keep the Celtics without a field goal for nearly five minutes, during which the Pistons went on an 11-2 run with five different players scoring.

Duncan Robinson showcased his hustle late in the half, tracking down an overthrown ball and making a quick three-pointer off a dish from Cunningham, who finished with 14 assists and no turnovers. An eight-point quarter from Harris helped the Pistons take a 59-51 lead at halftime.

Third Quarter Pressure

Boston came back strong in the third quarter, going on a 9-2 run to stay in the game. The Celtics shot 6-of-11 from three-point range in the period, keeping the pressure on the Pistons. Robinson continued to provide key contributions from long range, draining a pair of threes while Duren and Harris maintained their dominance in the paint.

Harris hit a late jumper to give the Pistons a two-point lead heading into the fourth, but it didn’t last long. Former Pistons big man Luka Garza sank a three-pointer on the first possession of the final quarter, putting the Celtics back in the game.

Jaden Ivey then took control, scoring seven unanswered points on his own. Boston responded with a jump shot from Brown, but Robinson delivered his fifth three-pointer of the night to create some breathing room.

Harris hit two more threes in the final moments, helping the Pistons shoot 50% from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter. The win was sealed after a key offensive rebound from Robinson, with the Celtics missing a potential game-winner from Brown that bounced off the rim.

With this win, the Pistons improved their home record to 5-1, marking their longest home stand of the season. The team will now head on the road for the first time since January 4 to face the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. This will be the first of two games between the Pistons and Pelicans this season.
