The Sixers welcomed the Indiana Pacers to South Philly on Martin Luther King Jr. Day for a Monday night game between Eastern Conference rivals. Paul George was not available for this matchup as part of his load management plan for his knee. The team came into the game riding the momentum of Tyrese Maxey being named an Eastern Conference All-Star starter.

The Sixers started strong, taking a 33-30 lead after the first quarter thanks to efficient scoring inside the arc. Joel Embiid and Maxey were the standout performers in the opening period. Embiid scored 10 points, hitting all five of his field goal attempts. Maxey added 11 points of his own. On the opposing side, Pascal Siakam, who is from the same country as Embiid, contributed nine points for the Pacers.

However, the Sixers struggled in the second quarter, managing only 17 points. The Pacers took a 55-50 lead into halftime, led by Andrew Nembhard and Siakam.

The third quarter saw a resurgence from the Sixers, as they scored 32 points in the period. Similar to the first quarter, Embiid was dominant, leading the team with 21 points heading into the fourth. The Sixers entered the final frame with a narrow 82-81 lead. T.J. McConnell, a former Sixer, was a key contributor for the Pacers, scoring 10 points off the bench.

The fourth quarter began slowly, with the Pacers taking an early 88-86 lead. From that point, the Sixers went on a 21-3 run, led by Tyrese Maxey’s career-high eight steals. Maxey’s performance helped the Sixers take a commanding 107-91 lead with just three minutes remaining. They never looked back, securing a final victory of 113-104.

Tyrese Maxey: A Night to Remember

Tyrese Maxey delivered a standout performance, finishing with 29 points, 8 assists, 8 steals, and shooting 12-for-24 from the field.

Maxey set a new career high with eight steals in this game. He became just the second player in franchise history to record 25 points, eight assists, and eight steals in a single game, and the first since Allen Iverson in 2003. Additionally, Maxey is the first Sixers guard since Iverson 16 years ago to be named an NBA All-Star starter. His ability to get to the rim was nearly unstoppable, as he scored 14 of his 29 points in the final quarter to help extend the lead and secure the win.

Joel Embiid: Dominance Continues

Joel Embiid put in another impressive performance, scoring 30 points, grabbing 9 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists. He shot 10-for-17 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line, going 9-for-10.

Embiid continues to prove that he remains one of the top big men in the league. This game marked his 14th consecutive game with 20 or more points, a feat that has become familiar to Sixers fans over the years. He started the game strong, making all five of his field goal attempts. After a quiet second quarter, he found his rhythm again in the second half, playing a crucial role in leading the team to victory.
