CORALVILLE, I.A. (SDSU) –

Daniel Guanajuato, Jacob Herm, Jarrett Wadsen, and Burk Blasius all secured their spot on the Soldier Salute podium with standout performances on Day One of the annual tournament. The event showcased a mix of seasoned athletes and emerging talents, each contributing to the excitement of the competition.

Daniel Guanajuato’s Strong Start

Guanajuato began his day with a decision win over Isaiah Harrison of Wyoming in his opening round matchup. He then delivered two technical falls over Waylon Rogers and Joe Calvin to advance to the semi-finals of the 125-pound bracket. His performance set him up for a challenging match against No. 13 and 1-seed Kysen Terukina tomorrow, with a trip to the finals on the line. Terukina was a three-time National Qualifier during his time at Iowa State before transferring to UNC this summer.

Jacob Herm Makes an Impact

Impressive true freshman Jacob Herm made his impact felt at 165 pounds. Herm scored a fall in his opening round match against Iowa’s Joey Kennedy and followed it up by majoring Mizzou’s Joel Mylin in the Championship Round of 16. He secured his spot in the semis by scoring a 7-3 decision over Iowa State’s Manny Rojas in the quarterfinals. He will face the 1-seed, No. 17 Bryce Hepner, tomorrow in the semis. A redshirt junior transfer from Ohio State, Hepner sports a 5-1 record on the year, including a win over top-15 opponent Ryder Downey.

Jarrett Wadsen and Burk Blasius Shine in the Consolation Bracket

Jarrett Wadsen and Burk Blasius made the most of their opportunities in the wrestlebacks in a stacked 184-pound bracket as each secured their spot on the podium in the consolation bracket. Both wrestlers dropped their opening round matches, Blasius by fall and Wadsen by major decision. Blasius went through Anders Thompson and two of his own teammates, Keenan Sheridan and Jared Thiry, all by decision, on his way to securing his place on the podium. Wadsen received a bye in his first consolation round before scoring a major decision over Aidan Schlett in Consolation Round 3. A medical forfeit by 2-seed Eddie Neitenbach allowed Wadsen to take his place on the podium.

The pair faced off with each other in Consolation Round 5 for an opportunity to move up the podium. Wadsen scored in the first and was able to get two more takedowns and a 4-point near-fall in the second on his way to a 17-2 tech fall. Wadsen will wrestle the loser of the 184-pound semi-final between Aeodan Sinclair and Waylon Cressell, while Blasius will wrestle Tyrell Miller for seventh.
