Macomb Area Conference White Division Highlights

In a thrilling matchup within the Macomb Area Conference White Division, L’Anse Creuse North freshmen Lily Cowper delivered an impressive debut. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the strong performance of Romeo’s junior Layla Babich and senior Sarah Jesperson. The duo proved that sometimes two players can outshine one.

Babich led Romeo with 16 points, along with five rebounds and three steals, while Jesperson contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and a couple of blocked shots. Their combined efforts helped Romeo secure a 50-43 victory over L’Anse Creuse North.

Cowper, on the other hand, finished with a game-high 20 points for L’Anse Creuse North. Despite the loss, her performance was a bright spot in what was a tightly contested game. The score was tied at 42-42 with just two minutes left on the clock, but Jesperson made several crucial plays down the stretch, including grabbing two big rebounds, blocking a shot, and taking a charge with only 25 seconds remaining. This helped Romeo close the game with an 8-1 run in the final two minutes.

Romeo improved to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the league, with their next game against New Baltimore Anchor Bay on Wednesday. L’Anse Creuse North, now 5-4 on the year, will host St. Clair Shores Lakeview next Wednesday.

Armada Dominates Cros-Lexington

In another notable game, Armada defeated Cros-Lexington 60-53, moving into sole possession of second place in the BWAC. Junior Valeria Ricossa led the Tigers with a game-high 20 points, while freshman Vivian Ricossa added 14 points and Hailee Agee chipped in with seven points. For Cros-Lexington, Emily McMillian scored 15 points and Nathalie Holes contributed 14 points.

Imlay City Shines Against Almont

Imlay City had a standout performance against Almont, winning 54-42. Junior Alexis Bruyere was unstoppable, scoring 37 points with five steals and two blocks. The Spartans took control early, leading 15-13 after the first quarter. Almont clawed back to take a 25-23 lead at halftime, but Imlay City responded with a 20-10 run in the third quarter. They closed the game with a 11-7 fourth-quarter advantage. Makayla Brumas added nine points, eight rebounds, six steals, and three assists for Imlay City (7-3, 4-2). Madison Derk led Almont with 15 points, including two 3-pointers, while Rachael Johnson and Gabby Carlson each added nine points.

Mercy Edges Utica

Farmington Hills Mercy defeated Utica 48-24. Vanessa Husband and Caroline Paluk each scored 12 points for the Marlins, while Elle Geerlings added 10 points. Violet Smith led Utica with 12 points.

Lutheran North Dominates Cranbrook Kingswood

Macomb Lutheran North cruised to a 23-point victory over Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood in a CHSL AA Division clash. Junior Leighton Garner scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while freshman Amanda Kress added 12 points. Sophomore Brooklyn Fox followed with 10 points, as three players reached double figures for the Mustangs.

Boys Basketball Highlights

In boys basketball action, Macomb Dakota edged Warren Lincoln 75-70. Brayden Lee led the Cougars with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Nehvir Njoku added 19 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Clinton Township Chippewa Valley defeated Grosse Pointe South 61-58. Jamison Spratt led South with 14 points, while Charles Michelotti and Sam Rouleau added 13 and 12 points respectively for the Blue Devils.

St. Clair topped St. Clair Shores Lakeview 59-42. Braylon Frantz led the Saints with 34 points, while Ethan Trombley and Kameron Braxton each scored 11 points for Lakeview.

Madison Heights Madison defeated Hazel Park 46-38. Myani Franks scored 15 points, Christian Payne added 12 points, and Zachary Marshall scored six points for the Eagles.

Sterling Heights Stevenson captured its first win of the season, defeating Romeo 48-42. Evan Insana led Romeo with 17 points, while Lucas Stojanovski added 13 points for the Bulldogs.

Madison Heights Madison also beat Clawson 72-27. Lamphere maintained its lead in the MAC Bronze Division, improving to 2-0 in conference play and 8-2 overall. Mychael Foster led the Rams with 17 points, while Evan Landstrom and Jack Robinson added 16 and 10 points respectively.

New Haven defeated Port Huron 47-40. Sophomore Kayden Harmon had a dominant game with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocked shots. Journey Parker added nine points and 10 rebounds, while Ryan Abuan chipped in with eight points, five assists, and four steals. Ashton Cook scored 12 points for Port Huron.

Eastpointe narrowly beat Center Line 53-50. Senior Tre Canady led Eastpointe with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Je’Sean Johnson added 11 points and seven assists, while Ryan Neal recorded eight points and 12 rebounds. Raymel Hudson and Camren Easton each scored 20 and 12 points for Center Line.

Imlay City dominated Almont 76-44. Isaac Sommer led the Spartans with 21 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while Jalen Gauthier added 15 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks. Hudson Everhart scored 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two blocks, while Lavon Edwards added seven points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Brody Corneau scored 22 points for Almont.

Yale continued its perfect season with a 56-17 victory over Algonac. Oliver Nelson led Yale with 16 points, while Joshuaa Iles and Tyle Debbs added 10 and nine points respectively.

Wrestling Results

Yale dominated Almont 72-12 in a wrestling match. Key wins included Logan Carrier (106 lbs) defeating Devin Komlosan, Landon Antilla (113 lbs) winning by forfeit, and Mackey McClelland (126 lbs) defeating Luke Loomis.

Yale also defeated Richmond 67-12. Notable performances included Mackey McClelland (126 lbs) tech-falling Matthaus Schade, Chase Sopha (138 lbs) tech-falling Ben Dittman, and Kersten McClelland (144 lbs) tech-falling Mason Pierce.
