Another Nebraska defender has announced his decision to leave the Nebraska football program on Friday. Braylen Prude, a reserve defensive back, shared his intention to enter the transfer portal after just two seasons with the Huskers. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound player from Pearland, Texas, initially joined the team as an under-the-radar recruit, listed as a three-star prospect from Shadow Creek High School.

Prude only played in three games during his time at Nebraska, making his debut in the final regular-season game against Iowa. He also saw limited action in the 2024 Pinstripe Bowl and played in one contest in 2025 against Houston Christian. Despite his time on the field, he never recorded any official statistics with the team.

Nebraska had taken notice of Prude during the summer camp cycle in 2023, specifically targeting him at a satellite camp in Texas. His performances caught the attention of Matt Rhule’s staff, leading to a scholarship offer. Rhule highlighted Prude’s impressive 40-yard dash time of 4.42 seconds during a camp, saying, “Braylen Prude, 6-foot-4, gets up at the camp on my watch and runs 4.42. And you’re like, ‘Run that again.’ And he ran that again.”

Following his strong performance in the 40-yard dash, Prude also impressed then-defensive line coach Terrence Knighton and former defensive backs coach Evan Cooper during individual drills. This led to Nebraska offering him a scholarship later that session.

Nebraska was one of the few major college football programs to offer Prude, as he had only received offers from Division II and FCS schools before earning the Husker scholarship. As a multi-sport athlete, Prude was also a standout in track. He ran a 49.47 400-meter dash and competed in the 200, 4×200, and 4×400-meter races.

At the time of his commitment in June 2023, Prude was joined by two other verbal commitments: Callen Barta and Jake Peters. All three announced their ties to Nebraska on Father’s Day. However, Barta later decommitted and signed with Kansas State, while Peters has only appeared in two games over two seasons with the Big Red.

Prude is the son of Ronnie Prude, a former LSU defensive back who was part of the 2003 national championship team. He played six seasons professionally in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens and in the CFL with Sacramento and Edmonton.

During his time at Nebraska, Prude was not listed on the two-deep roster, as he was behind other young defensive backs such as Caleb Benning, Rex Guthrie, Justyn Rhett, and Donovan Jones, who saw more playing time in 2025.

Prude joined defensive lineman Jaylen George and interior offensive lineman Jascon Maciejczak in entering the portal on Friday. He becomes the 12th Husker to enter the transfer portal. Nebraska continues its plans for the 2026 season through the single window of the transfer portal, which will close on January 16.
