49ers Unveil ‘For the Faithful’ Jerseys vs. Seahawks This Saturday
It’s fitting that the NFL’s “Rivalries” uniform rollout for the 2025 season ends with one of the league’s most intense matchups in a high-stakes Week 18 game. The San Francisco 49ers will be the eighth team to unveil their new alternate uniforms this Saturday night when they wear the “For the Faithful” design against the Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium. This game will determine the winner of the NFC West and the conference’s No. 1 playoff seed. It will also mark the first time the 49ers have worn black jerseys in eight years, and these new designs are expected to stand out in a way the simpler black-and-red versions from 2015 to 2017 didn’t.
The 49ers are encouraging their fans—known as the “Faithful”—to dress in black for the game. From NFL plays to college sports scores, here’s the latest in sports news you need to know.
What Makes the 49ers’ ‘Rivalries’ Uniforms Unique?
For the first time, the 49ers will don a full monochrome black look, including black helmets, which they’ve never had since joining the NFL in 1950. The helmets feature a matte black finish with red stripes down the centerline, the iconic interlocking “SF” logo, and gold-coated facemasks that will shine under the lights at Levi’s Stadium. A script reading “Faithful” is etched on the back of the helmet.
The red jersey numbers are outlined in gold and use a saloon-style font inspired by the franchise’s classic wordmark. A cursive “Faithful” is engraved above the numbers on the chest, reflecting the team’s appreciation for the unwavering support of its global fanbase. The club motto, “Faithful to the Bay,” is stitched inside the collar. According to Nike, the design draws inspiration from the Gold Rush era that once shaped San Francisco.
George Kittle, an All-Pro tight end and one of the designers of the “For the Faithful” uniforms, shared his excitement: “We wanted something fun, something different that we don’t really do. I haven’t worn all black since my rookie season. But we never had black helmets, so I’m the most excited about this. Holy cow, we are going to look cool. I feel violent when we wear all black, like we’re just standing on business. All ten toes.”
What Are the NFL ‘Rivalries’ Uniforms by Nike?
The “Rivalries” uniforms can be compared to Nike’s NBA “City Edition” or MLB’s “City Connect” jerseys. These designs were introduced during the NFL draft and unveiled in August. Nike aimed to create uniforms that deepen the connection between teams and their local communities. As the name suggests, these uniforms will be worn in intra-divisional matchups.
“The 2025 Rivalries uniforms will celebrate storied local traditions and unite fan communities with designs unique to select cities and teams,” Nike announced during the rollout.

The designs are deeply rooted in each team’s legacy and local inspirations, serving as authentic, competitive expressions of community pride. They offer athletes and fans a chance to connect in new and meaningful ways.
Which NFL teams have ‘Rivalries’ uniforms?
Eventually all of them. But for 2025, each team in the AFC East and NFC West is scheduled to wear its “Rivalries” unis one time this season. Two additional divisions will be added to the rotation in each of the next three seasons, and the “Rivalries” option then becomes part of a team’s closet for the following three years.
